Lara Vejrup Ostan
(b. 1995) she/her
is a Slovenian / Danish freelance choreographer and dancer based in Copenhagen.
In her work she investigates how new sensuous paradigms and our entanglement with them inform our constitution of “reality”. Building sensuous universes, hosting an everyday and mundane, she challenges dramaturgies of grandeur, katharsis and progress, questioning the socio-political role of storytelling. How do aesthetic narratives of change in turn inform actual change? And how might our understanding of motion shape contemporary mythologies?
She contemplates about how the internet, as a sensuous sphere, affects aesthetic consumption and the economic, psychological, political trajectories of the millennial generation; the internet natives. How does this data-landscape inform our sense-making processes?
She works with dancing as her main material and immaterial expression. Other mediums, such as film and text, are used in her artistic practice to mold and carry, or further develop logics of dancing.
Her primary training is within the sphere of improvisational techniques, but has extensive experience in ballet, ballroom and improvisational theatre as well as acting. In the past years she has worked as a performer / co-creator with Recoil Performance Group (MASS: Bloom Explorations), Eriko Makimura (DIES IRAE), Officinale Tours collective (Officinale Tours), Lena Bondeson (Something Else Matters) and Max Wallmeier (In the wake) amongst others. Most recent residency has been at HAUT, hosted by Regional Arena for Samtidsdans Sandnes, Norway.
She is co-founder of KOMMA Performance Productions, a member driven and collective association, supporting the development and production of dance works, as well as chairwoman of VA11a interdisciplinary office collective.
