ABOUT
Lara Vejrup Ostan
(b. 1995) she/her
is a Slovenian / Danish freelance choreographer and dancer based in Copenhagen.
In her work she investigates how our entaglement with (new) sensuous paradigms inform the constitution of perceived reality. Building sensuous universes, hosting an everyday and mundane, she challenges dramaturgies of katharsis and progress, questioning the socio-political character of storytelling. How might aesthetic narratives of change in turn inform actual change? And how does our understanding of embodiment and motion shape contemporary mythologies?
She works with dancing as material and immaterial expression. Other mediums, such as film and text, are used in her artistic practice to mold and carry, or further develop logics of dancing.
Her primary training is within the sphere of improvisational techniques, but has extensive experience in ballet, ballroom and improvisational theatre as well as improvisational acting. In the past years she has worked as a performer / co-creator with Recoil Performance Group (MASS: Bloom Explorations), Eriko Makimura (DIES IRAE), Officinale Tours collective (Officinale Tours), Lena Bondeson (Something Else Matters) and Max Wallmeier (In the wake) amongst others. Most recent residency has been at HAUT, hosted by Regional Arena for Samtidsdans Sandnes, Norway.
She is co-founder of KOMMA Performance Productions, a member driven and collective association, supporting the development and production of dance works, as well as chairwoman of VA11a interdisciplinary office collective and De Frie Koreografer, a political association working with freelance choreographers in Denmark.
